Meet Abbey the Cocker Spaniel, a Purina Companion Animal

Abbey is a beautiful 4 year old black Cocker Spaniel who was recently accepted as part of the Delta Purina Pet Partners program. Delta Society Australia is a non-profit organisation which promotes the social, physical, and emotional benefits of positive interaction between people and companion animals.

The Delta Purina Pet Partners program involves testing and training volunteers and their pet dogs to become Pet Partner teams. Teams visit sick children and adults in hospitals, frail aged care and disabled residents in supportive care, rehabilitation centres and any other residential facility where re-establishing contact with a companion animal enhances the quality of their lives.

In April 2007, almost 600 Pet Partner teams were visiting residential care facilities and hospitals in branches based in Adelaide, Geelong, Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney, Newcastle, the Riverina, the Central West (Orange and Bathurst NSW), Brisbane, and Townsville.

The joy that visiting volunteers and their Delta dogs bring to residents and patients has to be seen to be fully appreciated. For more information regarding the Delta Purina Pet Partners program visit
